Edinburgh International Fashion Festival

The Event

Edinburgh International Fashion Festival was Scotland's biggest and most inspirational fashion event to date. The inaugural Festival was held on 26th - 29th April 2006 and included:

  • Catwalk shows from International designers Vivienne Westwood, Matthew Williamson and Jonathan Saunders.
  • In conversation events with influential fashion figures Matthew Williamson, Jonathan Saunders, Carmen dell’Orefice and David Downton
  • Style sessions with Claudia Croft
  • Catwalk shows from Edinburgh’s retail stores
  • The Marketplace showcasing Scottish design
  • Dedicated Followers of Fashion – a fashion orienteering trail
  • New Edinburgh showcasing the capital’s new fashion talent

The Benefits

  • Drove festival footfall and encouraged retail spend at a traditionally quiet period for retail and tourism
  •  7,556 people attended the Festival. 
  • Positioned Edinburgh city centre as a stylish shopping destination and developed Edinburgh's bold, youthful and cosmopolitan image via direct promotion and local, national and international media coverage.
  • The Advertising Equivalent Value (AVE) of the media coverage achieved was between £175,000 and £200,000 and Opportunities to See (OTS) of approx. 50 million.
  • Increased partnership and collaboration within the retail community
  • There were 46 retailers involved in the Festival 

The Future

Edinburgh International Fashion Festival has effectively demonstrated huge benefits for the City and individual businesses and received extensive national and international acclaim.

There is a strong desire among all interested parties to see the Festival established as an annual event in Edinburgh’s event calendar.
Substantial private investment is required to fund the Edinburgh International Fashion Festival therefore Edinburgh City Centre Management are currently exploring all potential funding avenues and are hopeful funding will soon be in place for a 2008 event.
In the meantime ECCM will continue to work with city centre retailers to capitalise on the positive awareness achieved for Edinburgh City Centre through the Festival - maintaining its position as an important and exciting retail destination.
